Local BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) allows for automated management of IP routing within a Cherry Servers region. This service enables high availability by dynamically controlling IP addresses across multiple servers. If one server goes down, the IP can automatically be reassigned to another active server.
To enable Local BGP, activate it when creating a new project or enable it for an existing project through the Cherry Servers client portal. Projects with Local BGP will have an orange BGP sticker for easy identification.
Access the Local BGP control panel via Networking –> Local BGP menu in your Client Portal. There, you can see active BGP configurations, session statuses, and manage BGP-enabled servers.
First, deploy two servers and obtain a Floating IP address. Install the BIRD routing daemon on each server using the provided helper scripts. Configure BIRD to establish BGP sessions with Cherry Servers BGP reflection routers, then assign and configure the Floating IP to be announced by the BGP sessions. This setup ensures that the Floating IP is redirected to the active server, enabling high availability. For detailed steps, visit the Cherry Servers guide.
